Project Name   : Institute of Life Sciences
Location   : Bhubaneswar, Orissa
Year Of Completion   : 2012
Area   : 11,700 Sq.M.

Institute of Life Sciences was a National Design Competition which was awarded to PNP in the year 2004. The intent of the Project was to enhance the R & D facility already existing in the campus along with ancillary buildings like Research Scholars’ Hostel, Animal House, Green house, Director’s Residence and Service Building.

The new R & D Facility had to be connected to the existing facility without disturbing the activities of the facility and also providing for the future expansion. The existing building was two square buildings connected by a staircase and the entrance to each of the floor was from the mid-landing and landing levels respectively. The new building proposed was a doubly loaded corridor with labs on both side and ramps connecting the existing building so that the building will prove to be a barrier free environment for the differently abled.

Connecting corridor and courtyards in the building gave enough light and ventilation to the common areas in the 4 storied building.

The Animal house was carefully designed to house varieties of rats and mice. Precision Air – conditioning system was designed to cater to the sensitive environment as required by mandate.

A well laid out plan designed around the existing facility creates a conducive campus environment.
